Allergen Hub is an offline-first mobile app designed to help food businesses manage product ingredient and allergen information.
Data collection
Allergen Hub does not require user accounts and does not collect personal identifiers such as names, phone numbers, or account login credentials.
The app allows users to:
- capture or select images of product labels and packaging
- enter product names, ingredients, and allergen information manually
- store and review product records locally on-device
Product data, ingredient text, allergen information, and product images are stored locally on the user’s device.
Image processing
Images captured or selected within the app are used only for:
- optical character recognition (OCR) to extract ingredient text
- optional visual reference for product and label records
OCR processing is performed on-device using Google ML Kit. Images and extracted ingredient text are not transmitted by us to external servers for OCR processing.
Diagnostics and analytics
To help improve app reliability and performance, Allergen Hub may use Firebase Crashlytics and Firebase Analytics.
These services may collect limited technical information such as:
- device model and operating system version
- app version
- crash logs and reliability data
- anonymous usage events
Product data, ingredient text, allergen records, and images are not intentionally transmitted through these services.
Install and licensing verification (Android)
On Android devices, the app may check whether it was installed from the official Google Play Store. This is used to help protect against unauthorised redistribution.
This check is not intended to transmit product information or user content.
Data storage
Product records, ingredients, allergen information, and images are stored locally on the device using an embedded database.
The app does not require cloud storage for product data as part of its core operation.
Device transfer
If you use the app’s device transfer feature, export files are created at your request to help move records between devices. These files are not uploaded by us to cloud storage. You are responsible for handling exported files securely.
Data sharing
Allergen Hub does not sell, rent, or share user-entered product data with third parties.
Diagnostic and analytics data may be processed by Google Firebase as described above.
Data retention and deletion
Product data remains stored locally until it is deleted within the app or the app is removed from the device.
Uninstalling the app is intended to remove locally stored app data, subject to device and operating system behaviour.
Permissions
The app may request access to:
- camera, to capture product images
- photos or media, to select existing images
- network access, for diagnostics, analytics, and licensing verification
These permissions are used for core app functionality and reliability support.
Children’s privacy
Allergen Hub is intended for use by food businesses and professionals. It is not designed for use by children.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated as the app evolves. Updates will be reflected in the “Last updated” date above.
